Hi my name is Bobby Nate, I have been trying to post a comment to your guest book with no luck so I decided to Email it to you.

First I have to say I think you did a great job with your Baja V6 project, I think it was very well engineered, and I was very surprised to find another person with good taste in engines. I have owned a 2.5L probe, even with the mild American tuning it is a great engine. I am currently planning to build a Wombat kit car off of a VW, and I wanted more reliability as a daily driver over the VW stock or performance engines. That search lead me to your postings.  Thank you for posting your project for the world to see. It will help me a lot when it comes time to do my project.

Wes, outstanding job on the power-plant conversion, and you're my hero for doing the adaptor engineering yourself. I am in the early stages of my plunge into my 1970 Baja project. I am definitely going water-cooled, but I am torn between the Honda and WRX still. I can't get my eye off that twin-turbo Sube., but your CAD drawings and diary make the Honda adaption much more inticing - considering my mere mortal status in the engineering realm. We'll see. Thanks for all the hard work and devotion to sharing your trials. Rock on Baja brotha. -FZ : Akron, Ohio, USA

Hey, I love the site. A lot of great information and it's very interesting too. I've been reading for over an hour. Great job on the install! The performance sounds real good. I'm building a German/Euro Look Ghia and I'm thinking about swaping engines with something else, but I'm not sure what yet. I may just build it with a Type 1 or type 4 and do the swap later. Great site! Mike

I really love your thinking behind this project. The adapter you made is mad. I wish I still had my manx buggy and could go back to that day I decided to spend all that money on an unreliable type 1 engine. Would you know of the HR holden with this engine in Camberra and what gearbox hes running and if an adapter was made for it? Im thinking of a RWD project for the track.

Hey GREAT JOB!!! im really impressed with the outcome. At the moment im trying to convert a 1961 bug into a baja it's a bit of a problem considering im only 13. Not a very large amount of money to spend. Unfortunatly im still trying to get the bugger started. I could really use some advise on any of the bug work. Eventually i might try your idea of a V6 but that will come At a later date. Please email me with advise/suggestions. I would like to keep in touch.

I have built a '68', two '69's, a '70', three '72's and two '73's Baja Bugs. I have been looking at putting a 2.8L V6 from a '84' Chevy Camero in my '73' Baja Bug. Your website has been very informative. Your demister solution was outstanding and should provide plenty of heat to the windscreen. Did you ever fix your exhaust restriction? Why not go with daul exhaust?  >> Haven't done anything with the exhaust yet, due to money restrictions. Decided to buy a new motorbike instead. Dual's look cool, but are twice as expensive (2 cat's and 2 mufflers) and just add more weight. I reckon single is the best option for me, I hope to build a free flowing 2.5" system when I get some time. Send pics of you car if you go ahead with the V6 - Wes

So i am going down the route of making my own. If you could, would you be able to give me the hole positions from the center for the VW gear box it would get my project back on track. It has just taken 2 hours to go through your website. Congratulations on the conversion. I want one!. I am getting a type 3 fastback in the near future (I just have to arrange transport) and I would like to do something similar. You have really got me thinking. The clincher is the airconditioning. A pity there is no auto box. I currently drive an Audi A4 (1 year old) and a Audi 90S (bought new in 1990) both auto. The type 3 is to be a project. I live in Sherwood and it is nice to know there are places in Brisbane where you can get things done. Well done with your website. It is well done and easy to use. Well done on the car also. Hi Wes, Just checking in to see what's new. Any new trips? Any problems with the conversion? What kind of milage do you get off road? Try running 10% biodiesel mix with your fuel. We want to see more. Bill B. => biodiesel? I don't think an engine with a 10:1 compression will like running on a biodiesel mix . No big offroad trips yet, but should have a night run at the end of the month. Stay tuned for more trips, and read the transplant diary for more info on the conversion.

I enjoyed your website and the thoroughness of your planning, design and execution of the project. I also admire your ingenuitiveness and intelligence for fabrication of the necessary pieces, such as the trans adapter plate. You could have taken the easy path and simply ordered the adapter, but you didn't. I own a 1963 convertible baja. It's a little rough on the edges and in the middle as well. I have alot of plans and ideas for the future. An engine swap is one of those ideas. Ironically, I also own a 93 Probe. Because of it's decreased value over the next few years, it just might become an organ donor for my baja. We'll see what happens. Again, I greatly enjoyed your website and hope to use some of your knowledge for my baja project.

This is without a doubt THE BEST web site I have ever seen! The fact that it is all about Bajas, only makes it better!Well done. Your car looks great. I'm glad I'm not the only person in the country with an addiction problem when it comes to these cars. I have a '64 Baja convertable on a modified '68 pan running a 4" body lift, disc brakes, maximum reset on front and rear suspension and reinforced trailing arms. Solid mounted kombi box, NEW twin port big cam 1600 with 009 and all the usual stuff. It runs a high mounted Donaldson air cleaner and is fitted with a FULL roll cage built to CAMS specs, 4 point harnesses and polycarbonate race shell bucket seats. It sits WAY UP off the ground with Dunlop 10Rx15's on 8" rims at the rear and 215/85x15's on 6" rims up front. I had This Monster out on the weekend and was probably responsible for hundreds of dollars worth of Chiropactor bills today, as (over the roar of the Thunderbird Twin Cannons) I could just make out the sound of "cracking necks!" To say this car is a head turner, would be an understatement! People were coming to me in the street and offering money for it! That was it's 2nd outing (without the assistance of my tow truck), in 8 years! The car has been a long term project that started off as a minor fix up and turned into a Class 5/1600 Race car with lincense plates! Ooops! Keep up the GOOD work and if you ever come to Perth, please look me up.This site will be going to No1 on my Favourites list, ( and that means you're INFRONT of the porn) TOP JOB !!!!!!!!      => Rated higher than porn, wow, you must like my site . You'll have to email my some pics of your Baja so I can stick them up on the "Baja register", I haven't gotten any pics of WA cars yet. - WES

Hey Wes, your V6 conversion looks great. It's also cool to see that after all the work and detail you are still going to offroad it. I have talked to a couple people here in the states that have done V6 conversions as well. They said that they get great fuel economy on the street, but the V6 really drinks gas offroad. It will be interesting to see how your motor performs in this area. Your site is great, I love the stories. Keep them coming.

Just wonder how this will be certified as I understand it the engine mods should be within the Code of Practice, clause numbers referring to section 3.1 1.2.1, 1.2.2 Capacity limit, naturally aspirated , 3.0 x wieght. so for my 1975 beetle it would be 790 x 3.0 or 2370cc ! capacity limit with forced induction 2.5 x wieght 1.5.12 turbocharger a beetle 790x2.5 or 1975cc ! a super bug is I think 870 x 2.5 or 2175cc ! or is the QLD rules different regards Ben -> Ben, the QLD rules are the same. My rego sticker says my car weighs 920kg. Why I don't know, but my engineer was happy to go with it. Besides I have a book which states the weight of a 68 is 840kg (also good enough to satisfy an engineer). Also considering the mods from an original beetle, an engineer would also be happy to have the vehicle reweighed and I am sure it would weigh above 840kg. So that is how it complies with the code. As with any modification I first consulted my engineer to see if it can all be approved before I started spending money. My engineer is the person who found the MX6 half cut for me. Regards Wes

I am a probe enthusiest...I have done several KLZE swaps into various PGT's and 6's but you have gone over the top! Are you running the KL03 ECU or the ZE ECU? Btw...I have sprayed up to a 75 shot of nitrous on my KLZE while running race gas. On 93 octane you can safely run a 50 without timing retard..the only mod you will need is a high flow fuel pump and zip tie the VRIS open. If you want even more low end torque you can drop some KL03 cams in the KLZE motor....the KL03 cams (marked KL01) will really make the motor grunt down low! Feel free to email me for more info or visit www.PROBETALK.com for unlimited KLZE info!!! -> I am using a ZE ECU and wiring loom, I bought a complete ZE front cut from Japan. I put the odd post in at probetalk before, maybe I'll see you there - Wes

Ok, got a few questions here. Wheel size and offset I can't say a magic size, it depends on you car, brakes, suspension, baja kit etc. Unfortunately you have to try and measure what you need (tricky I know) or if possible borrow wheels off your mates to try. Next question, no this is not what I do for a living, just a hobby (a somewhat dedicated hobby). I am a mechanical engineering and work mainly as a stress analysist (hence the CAD and FEA on my site) for a worldwide consulting firm. I haven't had a chance to drive my car much to test the front mount (I am away for a few months for work), but I think the extra rear engine mount should help and I should be OK. This website is pretty cheap, probably similar to a magazine subscription. email bradoffroadvw.net for details on cheap webspace. Next question, what did I cover the radiator with? You mean the hole where my firewall used to be? I covered it with 1.6mm checker plate alloy. I think that's about it for now!

Hi Wes I am very impressed with your site. Is this what you do for a living? I first hooked up with your site last fall and I was inspired to dig out the 70 beatle, Thing front end and rear stub axles. The body is off now and I am waiting for the weather to dry so I can send it off to my mate's for paint. I have started fabricating the 3 inch body lift and I only have to drill half as many holes as you did. After twenty years of planning this project it is finally started. I too am running a water pumper, but "It ain't no ricegrinder". Excellant job on the conversion. How is your front trans mount holding up? I would like to have a website like yours but I am affraid it will cost more than the car.

Thanks for the entertainment and happy offroading ! ...... One more thing... ive hear from many people that a 2.5 inch exhaust lets the KLZE breath the best! and for your intake! mount that thing rite up and out the roof! haha just joking, but you should seriously get it some cold clean air! Hi Pete, The KLZE weighs 176kg or 388lbs (I weighed it, see the october page of the transplant).I am not sure of the beetle weight, I have seen figures vary from 100kg to 130kg, so I am not sure. Quarter mile should be low 13's if the engine is producing the full 200HP. I will have to wait until I am back in Brisbane to find out. Good luck with your buggy!

Thanks for making a good site! Your project encourages me to want to keep going on my Mazda powered baja. Only it'll be a carbed 13B rotary. But talk about smooth low RPM power! It'll creep without stalling at ~450RPM, which is lower than most rotaries I'm familiar with, and can accelerate at 1000-1500RPM in 3rd up a slight grade. I think it'll be a good engine for my baja.

Only recently being conected to the infamous World Wide Web it was awesome to find a website with information relavant to my current project. I toyed with the internet a few years ago only to find irelavant American sites so this site is a breath of fresh air. The car I'm working on now is a 1974 Beetle which is being converted to a baja I've fitted an early model combi box with reduction hubs to give increased ground clearance. The proposed engine is an 1800 push rod subaru motor (reliable and not too powerful so it wont brake anything). I plan on mounting the radiator on the rear cage what do you think ? If you're interested I could learn how to down load and send some pictures.

Looking forward to seeing / hearing the v6pig taking some trophies and settling some scores, not that the 1916 didn't do that for you anyhow. Thanks mate, hope your coming to the Nationals!
