THE PLAN |
The Plan is to build 2 Meyers Manx Dune Buggies. One will be very stock with a few enhancements to allow reliability. The other will be as far from stock as the Department of Transport will legally allow. Both Manx's have started from wrecks which were purchased from the Brisbane area. The purpose of this plan is to ascertain what effect the extension mods make to the drivability and off-road performance of a Manx. It will also allow me to have a spare buggy to lend out to people who are considering buying one but have never actually driven one. Not to mention to get more mates up the beach in a VW.
| Manx 1 - This Manx was purchased as a rolling project. It has had its wires removed and all its brakes / steering need replacing, there is rust in the floor and the tyres and rims are stuffed. There were seats with it but the rest of the interior was bear. It has a half made rollbar and a complete soft top.It is a swing axle king pin pan with 1600TP engine. (Click image for full details) |
| Manx 2 - Was purchased as part of a pair. All that remains of the pair now is the purple / maron body you see here. That is all I wanted and the rest was sold to fund the project. This one will be IRS king pin, 4 wheel disc brakes, 2L kombi engine, kombi gearbox, suspension seats, 6 pt roll cage, custom everything from front to rear. (Click image for full details) |
Both these buggies will be built at the same time. The hope is to have Manx 1 on the road for Christmas 2001. Manx 2 will be done when it is finished and will not be rushed to ensure all my ideas work and are legal. At the end of it all I hope to prove that the modifications that were made are worth the time effort and dollars. If not I have had a lot of fun and met heaps of cool people doing it.
Enjoy.......
