THE REAR TRAILING ARMS AND DISC BRAKES

THE NEW AND THE OLD

The new trailing arms are 3" wider and 2" longer than stock. This was done to allow the fitting of kombi axles and CV's. It also allows the use of a much larker Tempkin bearing and kombi stub axles. This should allow for the running or large rear tyres without and excessive where. They are made from 3 - 6 mm plate and are fully welded and gusseted  for strength. They are made to use stock type 3 twin spring plates.

This will help compensate for the increased diameter of the larger rear wheel. It also allows for ease of maintenance and good all weather stopping power. As you can see it bolts on quite neatly and uses a kombi hub and adapter plate to get back to the early 5 stub beetle pattern. The ones seen here are only for fitting purposes. The real disc will be new and have the adapter plate welded to it for legal reasons. The entire unit fits very well and will be complianced for use in Queensland.

You can also see the trailing arms fitted. The exta distance and width is all gotten by extending out and back from the spring plate tabs. The rims will have a large offset to ensure they get back in under the guards.
